What it is
What it Means for VCP

Always focused on sustainability actions, VCP assumed essential public commitments for the development of a Nation.

Entrepreneurial Pact for Integrity and Against Corruption (Companies against Corruption)

Introduced in 2006, this initiative results from the observation that Brazil should not continue paying the social, economic and political cost provoked by the successive cases of corruption that periodically confront the country. It is a voluntary commitment of VCP in favor of ethics in business.

The pact is an action of Instituto Ethos de Empresas e Responsabilidade Social, UniEthos - Formação e Desenvolvimento da Gestão Socialmente Responsável (Education and Development of Socially Responsible Management), Patri Relações Governamentais & Políticas Públicas, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Brazilian Global Pact Committee.

National Pact for the Eradication of Slave Work

VCP took on this commitment with Instituto Ethos which, together with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the NGO Repórter Brasil, organized the Pact for the movement against slave labor in Brazil.

The document signed in 2005, contains measures such as: commercial and financial limitations on companies and/or people that made use of work conditions characterized as slavery; rectification of labor relations in productive chains; support to actions of information to workers most vulnerable to corruption; training and professional optimization of freed workers; monitoring of initiatives adopted and evaluation of the application of the measures in one year.

UNEP International Declaration on Cleaner Production

VCP is the only Brazilian company from the paper and pulp sector that is committed to the International Declaration on Cleaner Production of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the agency responsible for catalyzing global actions for environmental protection in the context of sustainable development.

Even before assuming the formal commitment with UNEP, VCP had already been pointing its environmental conduct in this direction. At its plants, it performs the pre-whitening of pulp with the use of oxygen and the recovery of chemical products; it produces pulp by the ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) method, and maintains a gas burning system – all technologies that significantly reduce the impacts of its activities on the environment and for this reason are recognized as BAT (“best available technology”) by the American agency Usepa – Environmental Protection Agency.

Child and Adolescent Friendly Company

With its socially responsible management, VCP received the “Empresa Amiga da Criança e do Adolescente” seal from Fundação Abrinq. For this purpose it assumed 10 important commitments.

1. Saying no to child labor, not employing children below 16 years of age, except in the capacity of apprentices and only over the age of 14.

2. Respecting young workers, not employing children below 18 years of age in nighttime, hazardous or unhealthy

3. Warning its suppliers, by means of a contractual clause or other instruments, that a proven accusation of child labor can cause severance of the commercial relationship.

4. Providing day care or a day care grant for the children of employees.

5. Ensuring that employees enroll their children under 18 years of age in primary school and endeavoring to make sure that each one attends school.
