The criteria for excellence used in the National Quality Award (PNQ) have been adopted by the Integrated Management System (SIG-VCP). Execution is aligned with the Votorantim Management System (SGV), applied to all the companies in Votorantim Industrial and designed to promote the exchange of best practices and to strengthen skills in world class companies.

Four pillars comprise the SIG and run the Company’s management:

Sustention: Takes in the knowledge management, comparative reference, professionals and leadership processes. Guarantees the sustention and assimilation of the SIG-VCP and commitment to its guidelines.

Interested Parties: Establishes the parties directly or indirectly impacted by VCP’s activities. Sustainability at VCP will be increasingly greater as the needs and expectations of all interested parties are respected and they do not suffer any adverse impacts of its operations.

Integration: Promotes alignment and integration of the SIG-VCP practices with the Votorantim Industrial SGV management model.

Operation: Establishes how the management model will be operated, based on strategic, tactical and operational elements that guarantee compliance with the needs and expectations of the interested parties.

One basic tool is Management by Guidelines, which is used to establish and put into practice strategic planning, systematizing the follow up of results and the handling of deviations. Targets and action plans are established for all levels of the Organization, aligned with the efforts and definition of priorities in the application of resources available for the effective achievement of the strategies.

Support tools are used in execution of the SIG, such as the Balanced Scorecard (BSC), with continuous evaluation of the performance indicators from financial market, internal, learning and growth perspectives; Generation of Added Value (GVA), which measures the capacity to add wealth for stockholders; Business Intelligence, to offer a complete x-ray of the business; Six Sigma (statistical models to achieve challenging targets); and Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) and 5 S, amongst others.

In 2007 management was boosted in all operation processes, involving the business areas, engineering, logistics, forestry planning, research and development and the distributor, KSR. This methodology enables professionals to get and maintain the best performance results in the processes which they are responsible for in terms of quality, cost, delivery, safety and the environment.

Other initiates have been the applications On-Line Management (GOL) and On-Line Documentation (DOL), conferring speed in evaluation and execution of tasks. GOL was chosen as the best management system in the pulp and paper sector, winning the B2B Quality Standard Award, from the magazine B2B, recognizing best practices and strategies on the web and in information technology.

Six Sigma training programs qualified 64 professionals in the year to use the methodology, which increases their critical and analytical capacity in problem solving. Furthermore, four black belt instructors were qualified and 76 green and black belts were awarded for projects that resulted in financial gains for the Company. Ten projects were selected from the best of the year, and one – a paper production efficiency gain in Piracicaba – won an award from the Brazilian Pulp and Paper Technical Association (ABTCP).
