Pulp and Paper Market

The pulp and paper sector in Brazil is one of the most competitive in the world, due to soil and climate conditions and the development of technology for high productivity and production sustainability. Pulp and paper are produced exclusively from forests planted with eucalyptus and pine. According to Bracelpa (Brazilian Pulp and Paper Association), Brazil is the 11th largest world producer of paper, the 7th largest world producer of pulp and largest producer of eucalyptus hardwood pulp in te world.

In the past ten years, the pulp and paper industry invested US$ 12 billion in expanding its capacity, which made Brazil the largest producer of eucalyptus hardwood pulp in the world, increasing production from 1.4 million to 6.0 million tons per year. At the same time, Brazil increased its exports threefold, from a little more than US$ 1 billion in 1990 to US$ 3.5 billion in 2005.
